The Öland Bridge
It's hard not to mention the bridge when you’re talking about Öland, it is an invaluable traffic solution for all of the inhabitants and visitors. The idea of ??a fixed connection between the island and the mainland has existed for a long time, several parliamentary bills and investigations have dealt with the subject over the years. The first proposal was presented in 1932, but it would take until November 18, 1966 before the government presented a proposal in which a bridge to the island was actually part of the planning.
The inauguration ceremony of the bridge took place on September 30, 1972 and until 1998 the Öland Bridge was Europe's longest. The bridge is 6072 meters long and has a navigable height of 36 meters and a width of 13 meters. Many believe that the Öresund Bridge is Sweden's longest bridge, but the part of the Öresund Bridge which is built on Swedish soil is much shorter than the Öland Bridge. Öland Bridge is toll free.
