For 900 years, Borgholm Castle has stood on its cliff edge, overlooking the Kalmar Strait. It has been a castle, a fortification, a Renaissance castle, a Baroque palace and a prestige project in many guises before the palace was destroyed in a fire in the early 19th century. The ruin became one of Sweden's most powerful and best-known cultural and historical buildings and is part of our cultural heritage.
